A Flavorful Journey of Culture, Connection & Cuisine

Our June cooking session with Juliah at the Caritas Refugee Shelter was a truly special experience. This time, we were joined by a group of wonderful women from Kurdistan, who graciously shared their family recipe for Kafta—a traditional dish made with spiced ground meat, shaped into patties, and gently simmered in a rich, savory tomato sauce. The aroma alone was enough to make our mouths water!
To complement the dish, we prepared a vibrant red beet and orange salad—refreshing, colorful, and the perfect balance to the hearty Kafta. As we cooked side by side, stories were shared, laughter filled the kitchen, and new friendships began to form. It was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of culture, hospitality, and community.
A huge thank-you goes out to all the amazing helpers who made this event run so smoothly and joyfully. Your energy and support make these gatherings truly memorable.

Looking Ahead:
In July, we’re thrilled to continue our culinary exploration! This time, we’ll be learning how to make Dolma (filled grape leaf) a beloved dish from Iraq, guided by another lovely lady from the community.
We’re already counting down the days to our next session on 09 July 2025—we hope to see you there for another inspiring and delicious evening!
